True to her continuous activism for a high-quality urban culture, Oana Bogdan anchors the work of BOGDAN & VAN BROECK in the ongoing public debate and questions the traditional role of the architect. Her involvement in societal affairs, as well as in political debates, contributes to raising awareness of the holistic approach to sustainable development.
In 2016-2017, Oana took on the position of Secretary of State in Romania, coordinating the field of cultural heritage from the perspective of heritage as a strategic resource. In 2017-2019, her architectural expertise and previous advocacy work in Europe led her to the co-founding of the Romanian political party PLUS, member of the European political group Renew Europe. She is currently using this valuable experience in architecture and advocacy work in Europe, as public speaker, judge of awards, member of design review panels for governing authorities and of several executive boards of non-profit organisations.
In 2020-2022, Oana was president of the “Good Living” Expert Committee for a new Regional Planning Regulation in Brussels and of the Rotterdam Architecture Prize 2021 Jury, and Ambassador of Wiki Women Design and of Women in Architecture in Belgium. Furthermore, Oana was guest tutor at the European Master in Urbanism and various Master Programs in Architecture at KU Leuven, member of the Flemish Culture Prize 2007 Jury and the Ultimas 2020 – Flemish Culture Awards, the Advisory Committee for Architecture and Design of the Flemish Government, the Royal Committee for Monuments and Landscapes of the Flemish Region, and of the Unesco Experts Committee for the City of Bruges. She graduated in architecture in Belgium, in 2002, at Antwerp University, and in Romania, in 2003, at “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism, obtained an MBA at Vlerick Business School in 2015, won Europan 7 in 2003 and the Bucharest Architecture Biennale in 2010, and has been several times nominated for the Mies Van der Rohe Award.
